Columbia University’s Manhattanville Campus Continues to Expand
Columbia University’s Manhattanville campus continues to expand with two new buildings connected by a landscaped public plaza and green space. The new development is part of the massive 17-acre campus extension that will unfold over decades, featuring innovative buildings, tree-lined streets, expansive plazas, and plenty of green space.
Classic Stone LLC (Classic Stone) has been awarded the contract to source and supply natural stone pavers throughout the new plaza. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the plaza will feature over 8,500 sqft of granite pavers. With a similar landscape scheme as the plaza in phase I, also sourced and supplied by Classic Stone, the space will feature gray granite cobbles in a fan pattern with a flamed finish. Granite will also be used for bands, curbs, steps, planter walls and a special water feature. The granite pavers will provide the durability and low maintenance required for such a high-traffic public space.
All materials have been delivered to the site and installation is progressing quickly. A soft opening is planned for fall of 2021 with final completion of the new buildings and outdoor space slated for early 2022.
The new campus is the nation’s first university campus plan designated Stage 1 LEED Platinum.
