The Parks at 5M in SoMa Nearing Completion
The Parks at 5M is beginning to take shape! The new public park in downtown San Francisco is nearing completion and set to open in early spring 2022.
Designed by New York-based landscape architect, !melk, the privately funded public space will form the centerpiece of the 5M development, connecting the surrounding community with urban amenities including play areas, ample seating, a performance stage, and lots of green space.
Classic Stone LLC (Classic Stone) supplied the granite stone for the planter walls, which has a unique design that resembles the spine of a fish. The planters are scattered throughout the park to provide plenty of seating for visitors. Dark gray granite pavers were also sourced and supplied for the pedestrian walkways.
Developed by Brookfield Properties, the entire project spans over 4-acres transforming and redeveloping old buildings, parking lots and historic buildings in the vibrant SoMa neighborhood. The project has been divided into phases, with the first phase set to include the new park, a 25-story office tower with retail on the ground floor, a 20-story residential tower, and two renovated and repurposed historic buildings.
Final touches of the landscaping are in process and a grand opening date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
