Paving The Way At Columbia Business School

Columbia Business School has officially moved to Manhattanville. Students, faculty and staff started the spring semester in their new home, featuring David Geffen and Henry R. Kravis Halls and a 40,000 sqft park called The Square, that is situated between the two new buildings.

The Square is open to the public and will be used for outdoor gatherings, meetings, performances and lectures. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the space features over 8,500 sqft of granite sourced and supplied by Classic Stone, LLC (Classic Stone). With a similar landscape scheme as the plaza in phase I, also sourced and supplied by Classic Stone, the park features gray granite cobbles in a fan pattern with a flamed finish. Granite was also used for bands, curbs, steps and planter walls throughout the park. The granite pavers will provide the durability and low maintenance required for such a high-traffic public space.

The two new buildings join Jerome L. Greene Science Center, Lenfest Center for the Arts, and The Forum as newly constructed buildings at Columbia’s Manhattanville campus and mark the completion of phase 1 of construction of the campus. The massive 17-acre campus extension will unfold over decades, featuring innovative buildings, tree-lined streets, expansive plazas, and plenty of green space.

The Manhattanville campus is the nation’s first university campus plan designated Stage 1 LEED Platinum.
